Honeybee Trail Revisited

Last year when Mom and Dad came to visit, we took a hike on a local trail. The local hikes website said that this particular trail is great for families and it mentioned to keep an eye out for the indian hieroglyphics on the rocks. We hiked and hiked and looked and looked, but never saw a sign of the glyphs. When we got back, I looked at some other reviews of the trail and it indicated that there are two trails, and you find the glyphs on the north trail. So this time, I made sure we took the right trail. I even asked an older lady who was getting ready for a bike ride (she looked like she would know about the terrain and trails) to be sure we were going the right way. She warned us that the trail is sandy (not that anyone will fall down, but we might want a walking stick, she said) and that it takes a long time to reach the glyphs.
The trail is actually a dried up wash. It was sandy, which I suppose might discourage some people. It is more difficult to walk on sand than on more hard packed earth.
We told Nicco that we were looking for treaure on the rocks, so he climbed up and around to see if he could find it. It was a pretty cool evening, and luckily/happily we did not encounter any nasty critters.

Nicco has great affection for his grandma. In the grocery store, he wants her to stand right beside him. He wants to sit beside her at all meals and in the car. If I try to hold his hand in a parking lot, he promptly drops my hand and looks for his grandma. He held her hand all along the trail (except for when he was exploring) Dad said he hasn't had this much competition for Mom's affection since he was in high school. It's pretty cute.

We were not 100% sure what we were looking for. A few reviews I read said that no matter how far they hiked or how hard they looked, they could not find the glyphs. Others said the glyphs were the highlight of the hike. We figured they must be obvious if you hike long enough to find them.
We were pretty excited when we spotted this little figure, but hoped there would be more.
Grandpa hiked ahead of us and we saw him sitting on a rock waiting for us, opposite this rock, covered in drawings. Yay!
Nicco was excited that we found the treasure.

Here is some scenery along the trail:

Nicco did a great job keeping up and not complaining, but he did get tired toward the end. He had Grandpa pull him along.
Here we are, almost finished. Nicco was really starting to drag. He couldn't even keep up to hold Grandma's hand.
When we got into the car, Nicco said "I'll be ready for sleep when we get home." When we did get home, he put on his comfy socks, snuggled his grandpa, yelled at me in his half-conscious state when I put him in jammies, and we didn't hear another peep from him until the next day.
