- He who is void of virtuous attachments in private life is, or very soon will be, void of all regard for his country. There is seldom an instance of a man betraying his country, who had not before lost the feeling of moral obligations in his private connections.
- How strangely will the tools of a tyrant pervert the plain meaning of words.
- It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds.
I had to drive around for about half an hour to find parking down town near El Presidio Park. That was a good sign. As I drove around, droves of people in red shirts walked toward the park.
This is the "angry mob." About 2,000 moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, students, bsuinesspeople, gun owners, patriots. There was no anger. There was a lot of passionate discussion about action...not just stop the administration talk, but actual plans. Specific, detailed plans, to reclaim the freedoms that we have allowed to be incrementally stolen from us by an overreaching, bloated government for years. It was fantastic!
The speakers I was able to listen to in the hour I spent downtown were great. They were energetic advocates of individual freedom, choice, and responsibility. Considering this was a tax protest, much of the conversation revolved around fiscal responsibility, cutting spending, fighting FOR a fair tax (aka flat tax) and AGAINST the VAT (anyone interested in learning more about the VAT? Ask Patrice. It ain't pretty, folks.)
The local radio guy talked to one of our Congressmen before the Tea Party began. He (our dear leader) said he "read the 800 important pages" of the health care bill. Hmm...if there were only 800 important pages, why in the name of all that is good and holy were there 2700 pages? When asked that follow up question, the representative said "move on." Wow. Glad to know he cares.
Here are some of my random but tangentially related thoughts:
Socialism does not help the poor, it helps the lazy. We must stop the entitlements that are crippling our economy.
Equal rights (and equal opportunities) are guaranteed by the constitution. Equal outcomes are not.
It was fun and exciting to be among my fellow Americans this morning. I can't wait for November!

Awesome! I'm glad you went. I picked weeds.
We're glad you went, too. We drove across miles and miles and miles and miles of Kansas and easstern Colorado. We love the plains and the heartland of America. But truly, miles and miles and miles. We could have been at the tea party in Denver. oh, well. The miles were more than worth the visits and fun with Smiths and Cheevers! We do plan to go to a Tea Party meeting in
Evergreen as soon as we are in town on the appropriate Monday.
