We decided to have a small adventure this weekend. Patrice heard about this lake down south, which is supposed to be just fantastically beautiful. It was nice, to be sure, and we will probably even go back sometime, but fantastically beautiful is a little much to describe the area. Lovely would be more accurate.

See? Lovely.

There's a little marina where you can rent different kinds of boats: paddle boats, fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayaks...We plan to come for a weekend some time and camp and maybe rent a pontoon boat for a picnic ON the lake instead of NEAR the lake.

Here is our picnic by the lake. Nicco enjoys the colorful utensils and was very pleased with himself for cutting his watermelon into just right bites.

wading in the muddy water

The RC boat was a hit on the lake.

Nicco chased my shadow on the water, and ended up soaked to the bone.

We brought his bike along in case there were good trails for walking/riding. He would have gone up and down this bridge all day, given the opportunity. We only did it twice because it was quite a lot of work for the parent pushing the bike.

Riding back to the car
I don't recommend leaving the daddy with camera access. Either that, or remember the daddy has the camera and don't bend over for video documentation of your bum. This was just after Nicco face-planted in the lake trying to catch my shadow. We were inspecting the damage to his knees. There was none, as you might expect, but it was enough for Nicco to want to change into his dry clothes.
A fun adventure. As we packed for our day, Nicco said "Can you believe we have TWO fun things today? A picnic AND Mario!" We stopped at DQ for a frosty treat on the way home and that put the day over the top and landed it on the list of Best Days Ever in Nicco's book.

Looks like a lovely (not fantastically beautiful) Best Day Ever.
It's great when a four year old gets to have GREATEST Days Ever!
The Smith kids came home from Hocking Hills saturday saying they had had a great day, too. Just not the greatest ever. That's ok! That does look like a place worth returning to.
