California Getaway, Part VII; The Sun Goes Down on Another Beautiful Day

On our way back to the hotel from our day of adventuring, Patrice stopped and picked up some snacks. He said we would have to improvise in order to slice the bread and cheese, not having any silverware in the hotel. "Do you need a knife?" asked Nicco, pulling out the souvenir that his Daddy bought him at the Midway and apparently forgot about.
Nicco took this picture. And now it is a memory forever.
Success! The bread was sliced and the cheese was spread and all was right with the world.
Nicco asked us periodically if anyone wanted more bread, because if anyone wanted more bread, he was ready and willing to slice it for us. He really liked his souvenir.

We sat on the patio and enjoyed our snacks and the sunset.

Then we looked at the clock and realized what horrible parents we were for not feeding our child. Our options were to skip the evening meal, eat at one of the expensive hotel restaurants, get room service (talk about expensive) or go out. I did not want to go out. I didn't especially want room service either, and the guilt was overwhelming in spite of the boy's protestations that he wasn't really hungry. We went up to the sun deck and asked at the bar if they were still serving food and if we could take it to go. We got a quesadilla and something else and waited and waited and waited. Our patience wore out and Patrice went over to the cashier/waiter guy and asked how long it would take. The guy said, "That's  your order right there." It had been sitting on the counter waiting for us for several minutes. Patrice asked if anyone was going to let him know it was ready. They guy said, "I didn't know where you went." And I suppose it was just asking too much for him to look down the counter to where we were sitting, no more than ten feet away. No tip for you!

While we were waiting and freezing, we enjoyed the views of the Del at night.

Food finally in hand, we went back to our room, ate, and fell asleep to the soothing sounds of the surf crashing on the shore.
