Our Father's Day Jeep Adventure Continues Some More

Off we go, again. It was a nice, smooth, wide road for a bit there, so it was smooth sailing after all. For a while. Darrell took off, confident that all would be well with the rest of us behind him.
We took our time and enjoyed the scenery.
Patrice saw some cows in the gully below and pointed them out to his kid.
We came around the bend and the lone gully cow's companions were in the road!
 Nicco was amused.
Darrell was far ahead and the two Jeeps which had gone without incident were taking it extra cautiously. Neither one wanted to be the next casualty. We kept our eyes on them so as not to get too far separated.

And also because there's a Jeep thing that driving uphill, at altitude, in front wheel drive makes worse...something to do with a vapor lock stalling out the engine every 300 yards or so. We took a little pit stop while our traveling companions caught up.
 Here they come now!
The girlies were pretty tired and dusty and ready for the picnic at the top of the mountain.
Everyone got out to stretch their legs for a bit.
Some of us went into the woods to water the bushes.

 Nicco looked for treasure.

He found some. He was very excited and amazed at how much the top of the mountain looked, smelled, and felt like Colorado.
While we were on our small break, Patrice inspected his former Jeep. He may or may not have lectured Chad about losing blinkers and exploding rhino liner on the brand new paint job.
The girls are ready to roll out.
 Laney's purty.
We got back into our vehicles, ready for the final push. The Daddy's frustration did nothing to relieve the small boy's anxiety. Nicco's worry face came back. He was sure we would never see Darrell again and that we would get stuck with no mechanic on that lonely back road, miles (literally...like, two at that point) from civilization.
But, as promised, our friends did NOT leave us behind. They were at the top waiting for us.
Patrice had a talk with his mechanic about the vapor lock and fuel injection and flux capacitors and heat shields or something. He wasn't happy. But I have to say, given his nature he maintained his composure admirably.
With our whole party reunited, it was a thumbs up to move on to the picnic place.
And for reals, smooth sailing from now on! Right?

To be continued...
